The Mad Hatter in the News
Saskatchewan Additional Learning Resources Guide 2010
Prepared by: Curriculum and E-Learning Branch, Ministry of Education

Suggested Use: USC2.4 Showing Respect

Annotation: Grinelda loves creating and wearing hats, hats, and more hats. Because of Grinelda's idiosyncrasy, her classmates view her as odd and dub her the "Mad Hatter". One magical day, Grinelda's teacher assigns her to be costume maker for the class play Cinderella, and everyone begins to appreciate her special talent. Flamboyantly colourful illustrations complement the engaging text.

Books for Girls Who Stand Out

Review by Robin Rivers for the Rainy-Day Book Club

Check out Robin's review of Grinelda the Mad Hatter where she says "...you know the mark of a good kids book when your tiny person has just about every emotion in the course of reading it, and comes out the other side smiling and feeling empowered to go play dress-up."

Comments also include more recommendations for books that empower girls and encourage them to just be themselves.
